Wath CofE, Anston Hillcrest & Bramley Sunnyside top their groups in the Rotherham United Primary Stars Girls Football Tournament 2025

On Friday 17th October, 23 Rotherham schools competed in the Premier League Primary Stars Girls Regional Finals at Dinnington Resource Centre, in a bid to claim their place in the regional finals.

After 62 matches and 133 goals across the tournament, congratulations to Waverley Junior Academy who will represent Rotherham United in the Premier League Primary Stars Girls Regional Finals.

Three of our JMAT Primaries Wath CofE, Anston Hillcrest and Bramley Sunnyside topped three of the four groups to progress to the knockout stages. Bramley Sunnyside progressed to the final narrowly missing out on winning the tournament. Well done to all of our Girls who took part in this event.

The teamwork skills, self-belief and confidence grew as each game passed. This was epitomised in the knockout stages, avenging an earlier group stage defeat by winning our semi-final. We were thrilled to be crowned winners and look forward to representing RUFC at the regional stage.”

The tournament is one of the competition elements of the Premier League Primary Stars programme. Launched in 2017 and available to every primary school in England and Wales, Premier League Primary Stars uses the appeal of football to help children to be active and develop essential life skills.

Currently, 103 professional football clubs from across the leagues run in-classroom Premier League Primary Stars sessions in local partner schools. More than 70,000 teachers have signed up to access free online national curriculum-linked resources, to date.

The programme provides teachers and parents with downloadable resources across a range of curriculum subjects at Key Stage 1 (age 5-7) and Key Stage 2 (age 7-11), developed by teachers for teachers, and in collaboration with experts such as the National Literacy Trust and the PSHE Association.
