On Tuesday 28th we hosted some Parkour CPD afterschool at Brampton Ellis Primary. This Parkour CPD was excellently delivered by Matt Schofield from Nova City in Rotherham. As schools we all know how popular Parkour is becoming for our children and Matt was able to show staff how easy it is to use your indoor and outdoor equipment to break down the skills for everyone. On Monday 20th April Mr Bennett worked with 12 of our Early Careers Teachers (ECT’S) at Bramley Sunnyside Juniors to deliver some Gymnastics CPD. The session looked at understanding how Gymnastics aligns with the National Curriculum and developing teachers confidence with teaching Gymnastics. We had a successful JMAT Girls football league over two nights with 7 schools in total taking part. We all agreed that the standard of the Girls Football league has increased every year since it started 5 years ago. We organised our popular JMAT Y3/4 football competition at Wath Academy Astroturf on Tuesday 10th March afterschool. In total we had 6 schools involved with a really good standard of football. More importantly every child enjoyed representing their school and playing football. Bramley Sunnyside Girls UKS2 Footballers represented Rotherham at the County Finals at Honeywell in Barnsley. The girls plays 5 games - won 3 and drew 2 meaning we topped the table with 13 out of a possible 15 points. On Tuesday 20th January we hosted our popular Y5/6 Sportshall Athletics competition at Wath Academy Sportshall. This is one of Mr Bennett's favourite events of the year with the all action and varied events that the children can do. In total each of our schools will do 8 track events and 5 field events. On Thursday 15th January it was the Rotherham PE Conference at New York Stadium in partnership with Yorkshire Sport Foundation. Mr Bennett attended this event along with PE Leads from our JMAT Schools. The Conference was awell attended and included updates on the PE Curriculum from AfPE (Association for Physical Education) and workshops around Physical Literacy, Physical Activity and Hollistic PE Lessons and Curriculum. Bramley Sunnyside took part in the Rotherham School Games Parkour Festival at Novacity in the Autumn term. It was an amazing afternoon of parkour where children learnt a variety of different skills and even had a go at breakdancing! Bramley Sunnyside Juniors Road Safety Officers (JRSOs) led an assembly to encourage children to take part in our Active Travel Week – Christmas edition. Based on the JRSOs’ research, the school hosted walking buses from five different locations in the local community. Kiveton Park Meadows invited CreActive Urban Activities into school again in Autumn 2 to deliver a Scooter Stunts Skills Workshop. This was a new workshop that all children thoroughly enjoyed and it a fantastic way to try new Physical Activities in School. On Tuesday 12th November we hosted our popular JMAT Y5/6 Tag Rugby Competition for the “Matt Burrows Shield” . Matt was a parent of children at Wath CofE and had a massive impact on Rugby in the local area and supporting Rugby with our JMAT events. This trophy was won previously by Wath CofE in 2023 and also in 2024. The event went really well with the rain holding off and he had 6 schools taking part in total. On Tuesday 4th November Mr Bennett & Mrs Smith was lucky enough to announce the opening of the MUGA (Multi-use Games Area) at Hooton Pagnell All Saints Primary. The School has fundraised with the support of parents and the local community to make this dream a reality. The MUGA will have a massive impact on PE lessons and increased Physical Activity for the Children with Active Breaktimes/Lunchtimes & Afterschool Clubs.
