JMAT KS2 Cross Country Competition “Ray Matthew’s Shield”-07/10/26
On Wednesday 7th October we hosted our popular JMAT KS2 Cross Country competition for the Ray Matthew’s Shield at Wath Academy playing fields. Ray Matthew’s is known for his fundraising work in Rotherham for School Sport and also at the age if 75 years of age he completed 75 marathons in 75 days.
This was our biggest ever event with 808 children taking part from 8 of our schools which is unbelievable. Thank you to the 20 Y9 and Y10 Sports leaders from Wath Academy who did an amazing job in helping Mr Bennett to run the event. For the trophy Mr Bennett looked at all four categories to determine which schools had the most runners in the top 10. The winners for the third successive year was Wath CofE who had 10 runners in the top 10 closely followed by Bramley Sunnyside and Brampton Ellis who both have 9 runners in the top 10.
Thank to all schools and staff for ensuring that this event could take place. Good luck in the Rotherham school cross country finals if your school does decide to take part. The Rotherham Schools Cross Country finals are on Friday 12th March at Herringthorpe Stadium.
