With our philosophy of maintaining each schools uniqueness we have provided a structure which enhances, challenges and supports the governing body of our schools to drive forward school improvement and shape the life within their own school.
Huw Thomas is Director of Education for the Diocese of Sheffield. He has been a successful Headteacher in two schools and he was appointed as a member of JMAT on 17th November 2016.
Stephen Gardner has a background in aerospace engineering. and a Governor at the local community Primary School for 12 years and Chair of Governors for 2. He was appointed as a member of JMAT on 17th November 2017.
Derek Grover served as a senior civil servant in the Department for Education and Employment, latterly as the Director of Adult Learning responsible for national policy on education and training post-16 outside universities. Derek has been a governor and chair and is an accredited National Leader of Governance. He was appointed as a member of JMAT on 17th November 2017.
Martin Harrison, recently holding the position of Principal and Chief Executive at Dearne Valley College. Prior to becoming Principal Martin had 16 years as either Finance Controller or Head of finance in a variety of organisations, from Sheffield Hallam to Barnsley college and is a trained chartered accountant. He was appointed as a member of JMAT on 17th November 2016. (As chair of the board of directors, Martin is both member and director)
Our Directors all are specialists in their fields. They have committed to support the education of the children within our schools through ensuring JMAT provides the very best for all.
Alan Richards is an experienced Governor in both the Primary and Secondary sector and is licensed as a National Leader of Governance by the National College of Teaching and Leadership. He has a background in Chairing governance at two schools rated as outstanding by Ofsted. Alan is also a Director of a School Improvement company based in Rotherham and is the South Yorkshire Regional NLG Lead with the Teaching School Alliance.
With a very successful track record of supporting school improvement including recruiting, mentoring and developing Chairs of Governors. Alan runs a Leadership and Management training business in Rotherham and gained his professional experience in his career as a Sales Manager at a printing company in York and as a Senior Police Officer with South Yorkshire Police. He has an MBA through the University of Wales and is married to an Interim Headteacher in Rotherham.
Finance Director & Chair of the Board of Directors

Tony Price has a strong background in Wath Upon Dearne having taught for 27 years at Wath Comprehensive School latterly as Assistant Headteacher. He was Director of the Thrybergh Education Action Zone before becoming an Ofsted Inspector for 7 years and Education Consultant working predominantly with schools in the Sheffield Diocese. He now works part time at Sheffield Hallam University training PGCE students. Tony is also a member of the Governing Body at Wath Academy.
Carl Fitch, is the Crown Advocate and Senior Crown Prosecutor at Crown Prosecution Service, Sheffield, Carl is from Wath-upon-Dearne and he has a home grown understanding of the local community and the challenges faced within.
HR and Premises Director
Tony De’Ath, is the executive director of Personnel at Dearne Valley College. He has been head of Human Resources for the last 24 years at the college, thus having vast experience in the field of employment law specialising in the educational sector.
Katie Hewitt is the assistant manager of the Youth Justice Service in Sheffield. Katie's role includes working with some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in Sheffield, she works with a variety of agencies including social care and the LSCB.
John Gray is an experienced marketing executive, senior leader and Board member. He has been part of Executive Teams at a range of organisations such as: Chesterfield College and Sheffield College. John is currently Director of Further Education at Emsi who specialise in providing labour market intelligence and strategic insight to the education and skills sector. Alongside this role, John runs Bright Gray Ltd which specialises in marketing strategy and part-time marketing director services. He currently holds a number of Non-Executive Director/Trustee roles and is a former pupil of Brampton Ellis C of E Primary.
